Slate Slams Planet Green
Published: Jun 24, 2008
In case you haven't been following the Discovery Channel's efforts to go green we'll happily update you and remind you that you should read this site more often and you'd already know all about their 24-7 eco-channel, Planet Green.
here to get

As we wrote when discussing the new show starring cajun chef Emeril Lagasse on location at Whole Foods Market, we wondered how in the world do you create a television network about sustainability when television networks are all about advertising which is all about selling more stuff.

Well we thought maybe we were a bit too harsh in our criticism . We think it might be the reason the PR guy stopped returning our emails, though it might be we are way to small a potato for him to bother with. Either way, when we read the review on Slate we thought man, that's harsh.

Their conclusion was to the point, like a needle in the eye.

"Until Planet Green quits its annoying mix of condescension and pandering, watching it will be an unforgivable waste of energy." Read it for yourself and let us know what you think of their shows.

We don't get it on our local cable channel, so we don't know what we're missing, and as we mentioned before we're not at the top of anyone's list at the channel.

Point is we think that Slate misses the point here. The line between educating people and selling products hasn't really been explored before, unless you include Sesame Street and the only thing I think they were selling is learning to count.
